The books are stand alone novels but they share characters and places, you will get to know the Village and its characters. I wanted to capture the true spirit of village life, with all its warmth, idiosyncrasies, and charm. Brambleton may be a fictional village, but it’s inspired by a mishmash of a few lovely North Devon coastal communities that I know so well—full of friendly eccentrics, nosy neighbours and, of course, the occasional scandal.

After years of living in London, where I was so caught up in the whirlwind of work that I scarcely knew who lived next door, I longed to write about the kind of place where everyone knows not just your name, but what you’re having for dinner.!

At its heart, A Perfect Devon Farmhouse is a story of coming home—not just to a place, but to a simpler, more meaningful way of living. It’s about rethinking what’s truly important in life and learning to find contentment in unexpected places. My heroine Clare’s journey, from a high-flying London lawyer to an advocate for a small rural village, was a wonderful way to explore this theme, all while having a bit of fun along the way. There are some entertaining moments, plenty of romance, and a good dose of canine chaos—Clare’s dog is certainly no angel, but then again, neither are mine!

Ultimately, it’s a story of new beginnings and rediscovering what makes life worth living. And although there are some bittersweet moments, of course, there’s a happy ending. Because really, where’s the fun without one?

Clare loves her job as a busy lawyer in the city of London. So when her mother dies and she is forced to return home to the family farm in Devon, all she can think about is how quickly she can sell it and return to civilization.

But as Clare gradually learns how to collect eggs from flighty chickens, make apple cider in the freezing cold, and feed her mother's tearaway dog, she begins to fall under the spell of the village of Brambleton. When the local landlord tries to enrich himself at the expense of the villagers, Clare decides to stay put, and use her legal skills to fight for the underdog.

She's only planning to stay until she's won the battle. But she doesn't count on falling in love....

I wrote this story while sorting out my mother-in-law’s estate. It wasn’t anywhere near as grand as Mary’s fortune in the book, but like Sarah, I found myself seething over the principle of it all. It’s funny, isn’t it, how these things unearth emotions you didn’t know you had? Or maybe you did know but pushed them down with gritted teeth and polite smiles.

I can still see her now. We’d taken her to Aldborough for the day—before she was diagnosed with dementia. In a restaurant, she pushed a black and gold plastic card across the table. “That’s where you’ll find my will when I shuffle off. Right, let’s get some lunch, I’m starving!” Just like that, death dealt with in under a minute.

So when she passed away and her third husband claimed there was no valid will, that she’d revoked it, we just… accepted it. Until he gloated, “Oh no, there’s no will. It’s all mine now!”—that smug, got-you tone that cut through our grief like a knife.

And that’s what inspired Sarah’s story—how an inheritance can unearth old grievances and ignite battles no one saw coming. Because in families, what you see on the surface rarely tells the whole story… and sometimes the real drama only begins when someone dies.

From the outside, Sarah’s life is enviable. A loving husband, a sweet-natured daughter, and a gorgeous home nestled in the rolling Devon countryside. Days are spent tending her garden, baking perfect scones, and throwing herself into every village fundraiser going.

But scratch beneath the surface and things aren’t quite so rosy. Her mother-in-law’s memory is failing fast, family dinners are strained, and there’s a secret Sarah’s keeping—a secret that could shatter her marriage and leave her life in ruins.

As if that’s not enough, Sarah stumbles across a criminal operation right on her doorstep. The charming, peaceful haven she calls home is hiding something sinister, and the men behind it know exactly how to keep her quiet. All she has to do is turn a blind eye... or risk her own devastating secrets being exposed.

What starts as a calculated, if naïve bid to protect her family soon spirals out of control. As Sarah’s lies pile up, so do the threats, and she finds herself snared in a web of her own making, in deeper than she ever imagined. Can she really keep everyone safe and maintain her perfect façade?
